Be mentally fit, too

Congratulations Manitoba! Together, we have circled Manitoba close to 100 times. Now it's time to take on the world!

We all move for different reasons - for fun, for fitness and for health. Ever wondered what it all adds up to? Now you can join thousands of other Manitobans as we see how many times we can move around Manitoba and the world together! Individuals and groups of all ages and fitness levels can participate. It's easy and fun. So come on... let's get moving!

Here's how:

  1. Register with Moving Around Manitoba.
You will receive a kit with helpful tips, physical activity and food tracking tools, promotional items and more. You can register online, by fax or by telephone.

  2. Be physically active every day.
Walk inside or out. Go for a run, take a bike ride in the park or ride your stationary bike at home. Swim. Dance. Stretch. Take part in in motion community events.
We recommend 30 to 60 minutes of moderate activity daily to improve your health. Start slowly… and build up.

  3. Think Safety
Whatever the activity, be sure to use the proper safety gear, follow the rules of the road and know your environment. For more safety tips on cycling, walking, swimming and more, visit the Think Safety Tips in the Friendly Tips section.

  4. Track your physical activity and how long you do it.
Convert your time to Moving Around Manitoba kilometres. Use the tools provided online or in the registration kit.

  5. Add up your activity and submit your results weekly.
Submit online, by fax or phone.

  6. Check the website or call often to see how many times we’ve moved around Manitoba and the world!
A complete lap around the perimeter of our province is about 4,000 kilometres. To make it around the world we would have to travel about 40,000 kilometers. Think of how much ground we can cover if we do it together as a team! Remember, 1 kilometer is roughly 10 minutes of moderate activity.

  7. Be sure to eat well. Follow the new Canada Food Guide.
Healthy eating builds a healthy body and is important for maintaining a healthy body weight. Healthy eating means eating a variety of foods. Canada's Food Guide and other nutrition publications provide information that can help you make wise food choices.

  8. Practice mental fitness, too.
Control your stress. Set realistic goals. Relax. Enjoy yourself. Make time for others. Give and accept support.

  9. Celebrate success.
    You’ll feel great!
